What is a Toric ICL and who needs it?

Is EVO ICL the same as EVO+ ICL?

EVO ICL and EVO+ ICL are both made by STAAR Surgical. EVO+ ICL has a larger optic size (6.1mm vs 4.9–5.8mm in standard EVO) to reduce halos in patients with larger pupils. EVO+ ICL received FDA approval in 2022 and is recommended for patients with pupil diameters greater than 6mm in dim conditions.

What is the vault in ICL surgery and why does it matter?

Vault is the gap between the ICL lens and the eye's natural crystalline lens. Ideal vault is 250–750 microns. Too little vault risks contact with the natural lens (cataract risk); too much vault may elevate intraocular pressure. Vault is measured post-operatively using anterior segment OCT and is a key indicator of successful lens sizing.

Can ICL correct astigmatism?
